human-I-T is redefining the norm by suggesting that recycling is not good enough. While recycling is better than dumping electronic items into a landfill, it overlooks the opportunity to reuse a device in its entirety. human-I-T repurposes these items to the benefits of students, low-income families, and nonprofits across the county; while still providing all of the ITAD and Asset management services your typical E-Waste Recycler offers. Our approach to repurposing technology has positive environmental and social impacts. By donating your unwanted technology you reduce the amount of energy spent recycling devices, creating new items, and the amount of waste created in the packaging and shipping of new items. Donated technology is repurposed to support human-I-T’s programs and partner programs. Technology donations are redistributed to provide students and families facing the digital divide with free or low-cost devices, low-cost internet connections, and digital literacy training. This enables our communities to build a better future by giving them access to the tools required to thrive in a digital world.
All donations to human-I-T are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Business technology donations will receive an itemized tax-deductible receipt within 60 days of your donation arriving at a human-I-T facility. For all personal donations, a blank, fillable donation receipt is provided at the time of donation. Please see an example of our Donation Receipt here.
The more technology we take in, the more people we can help. human-I-T works with a variety of technology types, in any condition. Our motto is “anything with a cord...except appliances.” Please review our Accepted Items Guide to see an overview of the items we can and cannot accept.
Data security is a top priority for human-I-T so that we can best protect our donors and recipients. Using data destruction software certified by HIPAA and the Department of Defense, we completely wipe your data from all hard drives and perform a comprehensive rescan to verify that all data has been fully removed. If the hard drive fails the verification after wiping, human-I-T then physically destroys the drive. A certificate of data destruction is provided with every itemized donation receipt. Additionally, more detailed reporting is available to meet even the most stringent data security protocols. You can view an example of the general Certificate of Data Destruction included in every Donation Receipt here. Every hard drive is wiped to NIST 800-88 4 and 800-14 specifications. Our data destruction software wiping methods are compliant with the following international standards/laws: HIPAA, US Department of Defense 5220.22 M, US Army AR380-19, US Air Force 502, German VIST, Russian GOST p50739-9, Canadian OPS-II, HMG IS5 Baseline/Enhanced, Navso P-5329-26, NCSC-TG-025 & NSA 130-2, NIST 800-88.Please see our Data Security and Sanitization Protocols for more information on our data security measures, chain of custody, and supplemental documentation examples. If your company policy is to keep your hard drives, don’t worry! We can still put your technology to good use even with broken or missing components.
