In July of 2015, the White House and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) launched ConnectHome to accelerate broadband adoption via technology donations to families living in HUD-assisted housing. human-I-T was part of a select group of partners chosen for the 28 city pilot to distribute this technology to help connect program recipients to the internet for ConnectHome. Households were also provided with paid internet and digital literacy training.
ConnectHome is a platform for collaboration between local governments, public housing agencies, Internet Service Providers, philanthropic foundations, nonprofit organizations, and other relevant stakeholders that has produced local solutions for narrowing the digital divide.
Through technology and broadband internet access, every child has an opportunity to build a brighter future and to achieve his or her dreams.
Makes broadband internet more adoptable by building new models to provide broadband infrastructure and by offering residents free or discounted services.
Makes broadband internet more valuable by giving residents localized, free, and culturally sensitive training in essential, digital literacy skills; allowing them to effectively utilize high-speed internet.
Makes broadband internet adoption sustainable by providing devices and technical support to program recipients and by refocusing existing resources to supplement and sustain the work of ConnectHome.
