LOS ANGELES, March 21, 2018 human-I-T, a 501(c)3 nonprofit focused on increasing digital equity and decreasing electronic waste, announced the receipt of a $250,000 donation from the Pineapple Fund today. The gift will ensure that technology is redirected into the homes of low-income families, veterans, and people with disabilities, rather than recycled or discarded in landfills. The Pineapple Fund was started in December of 2017 by an anonymous philanthropist known as “Pine”. Pine made $86 million available to charities — all in the form of Bitcoin. Over the course of four months, Pine donated to 60 other charities.

The Pineapple Fund is a trailblazer in the philanthropy space as it leverages cryptocurrency to create impact. This record-breaking monetary gift to human-I-T will scale the organization’s ability to donate technology at no cost and facilitate low-cost internet connections. CEO Gabe Middleton spoke to the impact of this game-changing contribution: “human-I-T is deeply humbled by Pine’s generosity. We’re thrilled to be a part of this unique and innovative donation. Just as Pine has become successful using technology and the internet, this donation will allow others to access those tools and tap into opportunity today. Gifts like these make our mission a reality.” human-I-T plans to continue pursuing opportunities that leverage cryptocurrency to scale the organization. Using this strategy, they look to increase the number of impoverished households that have access to technology and the internet.
