The Los Angeles College Promise (LACP) is a program through Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Connect to Success initiative; designed to serve first-time Angelino college students. It focuses on providing students in economic need the necessary resources to be successful in their pursuit of higher education. The program includes two years of free tuition and public transit.

With 70% of school work being done online, Mayor Garcetti recognized that many students still face the barrier of not having access to reliable technology and an internet connection that will not break the bank. The Mayor’s office partnered with Los Angeles City College District (LACCD), The Annenberg Foundation, and us – human-I-T, to fundraise, source, and refurbished laptops to donate to the qualifying LACP students. Thanks to the work of many great partners, thousands of laptops will be placed in very deserving hands.

In the first phase of the program, 6,000 students will receive a free human-I-T laptop to assist them in all their college needs. All devices are loaded with a new OS, paired with one year of free tech support, hardware warranty, and assistance in subsidized internet offers. One student quotes, “regardless of how much money your parents make or background you come from; we now have a more level playing field. We can have the same opportunities as other people and other colleges.” The truth is that these tools are no longer a luxury but a necessity in this technological age.

We are proud partners of the Connect to Success initiative, and we look forward to continuing to provide those in need the opportunity to stay ahead through technology. Mayor Garcetti said it best, “Our city is at its best when we empower our young people with every opportunity to expand their knowledge, prepare for a fulfilling career, contribute to our communities, and strengthen our economy.”
