Every week we like to look back at everything we have read to bring you more information about the digital divide, digital inclusion and technology trends from around the web. Today on The Weekly Plug we look at World WIFI Day, a recent video on a great OurCycle LA event and 4 ways that technology is changing cities in this edition of The Weekly Plug.

Celebrating World WIFI Day
World WIFI Day celebrates how the internet is impacting people everywhere. “The internet is a powerful tool that is vital in multiple aspects of work and life. In March of 2016 the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) issued a brief detailing how “unemployed workers in households with Internet were 4 percentage points more likely to be employed 1 month in the future than those in households without Internet.”

Our recent OurCycle LA even was featured in LA This Week. This event focused giving out computers to families at the Justice Street Academy Charter Schools.

How Technology Is Changing Cities

Everything from big data to public safety and internet access is posed to bring new and challenging ways for cities to operate. “As data and technology become more essential to business and education, cities are implementing programs that expand access to underserved communities,” the NLC report finds.
