“PLAYING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION” was this year’s theme for the Green Sports Alliance Summit. An event that brings together the most reputable stakeholders in the sports community “to learn and share better practices and the latest innovations in greening operations.”
You probably guessed it, of course, we were there! Our team had the chance to speak on human-I-T’s services and provided a new option for the industry to deal with their unwanted technology. We discussed IT Asset Disposition (ITAD), the digital divide, E-Waste, and the impact it has on the environment and the community. The #greensports movement also inspired us! Seeing hundreds of sports teams and organizations taking in all the knowledge, best practices to create a positive impact and engage their community gave us the “we are in this together” feels. The summit was filled with not only sports associations, but with many green-conscious companies – from solar panels to compostable plastic made from plants that return nutrients to the soil.
Now, before you begin thinking that this sounds like any other environmental event, we will take it back to the “PLAYING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION” theme. This is very important because the sports industry has a MASSIVE amount of followers and influence (over 3 billion people tune in for the Olympics or the World Cup). If one company or team can get behind a movement, it creates a ripple of impact. The awareness that these sports organizations have towards being environmentally conscious and distilling it to their fans can create positive social movements, and that’s the goal. Creating trends that are kind to the planet and beneficial to our society.
